A mysterious and charming story based on the Ernst Hoffmann’s tale will end the year at the “Theater Club at Silver Screen”. We will meet on December 22 to enjoy the calling card of Russian ballet in the Yury Grigorovich’s artistic direction. After the show, together with experts, we will sum up the theatre year in Belarus.

Hoffmann’s“Nutcracker” is the most New Year’s story of all. And Yury Grigorovich’s ballet is the New Year’s most of all the “Nutcrackers”. From the first music, from the first snowflake flying over the stage, the audience is inevitably covered by the anticipation of a real holiday. Girls in elegant dresses, boys with sabers, wonderful Drosselmeyer toys – a Christmas tree grows to the most beautiful and exciting music, turning cynical adults into children waiting for a miracle. A miracle will certainly happen. And it’s not scary that in the end the whole story will turn out to be just a little girl’s dream – this is what the New Year is for, to see fabulous dreams.

In 2016, the “Nutcracker” of the Bolshoi Theater of Russia celebrated its 50th anniversary. This interpretation of the famous fairy tale, created by Yury Grigorovich together with the artist Simon Virsaladze, is considered a gold standard throughout the world.

“Grigorovich’s “Nutcracker” is a mysterious, sometimes dark and troubled story, filled with philosophical reflections on the nature of good and evil. In this ballet there is no that mirth and simplicity inherent in a children’s matinee. On the contrary, here Tchaikovsky’s music finally spread its wings, filling the hall and stage with its poetic breath, revealing itself in full force”, writes Gazeta.ru.

The main topic for discussion will be the results of the passing year: what it was like for the Belarusian theater and the “Theater Club”. The speakers of the sixth meeting will be:

Lyudmila Gromyko – theater critic, teacher, coordinator of the Belarus Open program of the THEART forum.

Nadezhda Buntsevich – music and theater critic, editor of the department of the newspaper “Culture”.

The Theater Club is hosted and moderated by Angelika Krashevskaya, Director of the Center of Visual and Performing Arts, ART Corporation, and the International Forum of Theatre Arts THEART.

Additional show – without discussion – will be held on December 28 and January 7 in Hall No. 7.
