The picture Forrest Gump is released in a restored version and for the first time on Belarus’ big screens to mark its 25th anniversary. The ultra-quality 4K version will allow you to see the world again through the hero Tom Hanks’ eyes. You can watch an ironic and inspiring sample of American history from the start of Elvis Presley’s career to the heyday of Apple from February 13 to 26 at the Falcon Club Cinema Boutique.
Forrest Gump is a kind boy with a low IQ who lives in the American South. His mother teaches him that a man who acts like a fool is stupid, while Forrest himself is no worse than the others. With this attitude and a fair share of luck, he goes through his full life: becomes football and table tennis star, graduates from college and fights in Vietnam, gets a medal from the president and meets John Lennon, starts a multi-billion dollar business and inspires people to run. But none of this matters to Forrest: he can think only of Jenny, a childhood friend, who he have been loving for three decades.
Forrest Gump is based on the 1986 novel of the same name by Winston Groom. The picture differs from the book in both the plot and the character of the protagonist as well as in its overall tone: the film by Robert Zemeckis’ is more sentimental and less satirical.
The film was directed by Robert Zemeckis, whose track record already included the film hits Romancing the Stone, Who Framed Roger Rabbit, and the trilogy Back to the Future. Zemeckis also became famous for his innovative approach to special effects. In Forrest Gump, he uses computer graphics, literally placing the main character in the scenes of a real historical chronicle.
The drama grossed more than $680 million worldwide and took 2nd place in the overall chart in 1994, but it will be shown in the CIS countries for the first time. Forrest Gump also won the Academy Award in 6 out of 13 categories, including Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Actor, beating the iconic films Pulp Fiction and The Shawshank Redemption. The IMDB site included the film in the rating of the best films of all time (12th place). Forrest Gump is on the third place in the TOP-250 Best Films According to Kinopoisk rating.
Tom Hanks (Saving Private Ryan, The Green mile) played the main role in Zemeckis’ film. For Hanks, the Academy Award for Forrest Gump was the second in a row and it strengthened his status as the main actor of the generation.
Robert Zemeckis’ drama will be shown in the original dubbing with Russian subtitles in Minsk.
