The first screenings of “Weekends with Lars von Trier” at the MOOON cinema in the shopping mall “TRINITI” will start with the film “Dancing in the Dark”, starring singer Bjork. After that the experimental aesthetic work of the Danish director “Europa” will be shown. After screenings you can discuss the films with the film expert Igor Soukmanov.

“Dancer in the Dark” is Trier’s milestone film that won the Palme d’Or in Cannes and made Bjork a true movie star. In the film, the singer plays the role of Selma, an immigrant from Czechoslovakia. She suffers from an ailment that affects her eyesight, and she works at the factory blindly in order to earn money and save her son from the same illness. With music and dancing, she saves herself from despair and sacrifices herself for the life of her son. The director’s soul-turning experiment with the musical genre has made “Dancing in the Dark” one of the most groundbreaking films in the history of genre cinema. The film will be shown on June 4.

On June 5 the viewers will have a possibility to watch the film “Europa”. A spectacular black-and-white film interspersed with color shots and with impeccable visual aesthetics will tell the story of a young German Leopold Kessler, who returned from America to Germany occupied by the allies. Firmly convinced that the war is over, he tries to return to normal life, gets a job as a railroads conductor and falls in love with a young girl Kat. Deformed concepts of good and evil and devalued human life, as opposed to the humanism of the protagonist, who did not survive the horror of war, lead to disaster, but leave hope. “Europa” received three awards at the Cannes Film Festival. The picture is considered one of the most important in the filmography of Lars von Trier. A lot of people begin their acquaintance with the director with this film and irrevocably fall in love with him.

All films are shown in their original language with Russian subtitles.
